I still don’t have an iPod….and I love it

As I know about 8 people know, I have no iPod. Not because I would not afford one, no. I did have a job before, and it’s not because I don’t like music (I rather like music now, actually), and it’s not because I don’t like MP3 Players (I have a sansa fuze, 8GB, which is just fine). It’s because I hate iTunes, with a passion. I love Windows, and iTunes runs horrible on the Windows (or so I have heard, I know not if it still does, but Paul Thurrott says it does, and I trust him). This is one of the main reasons I don’t want an iPhone. Now, I admit that it is a rather nice device, and it does what it does rather well (except for the phone call part I hear). I just don’t like being tied down to a single piece of software that is not receiving the attention it should on the most popular platform of today (hey, there are still more Windows PC’s than Macintosh computers out there).

Now, both of you who are still reading this may be thinking “Hey, the Zune does that too!” Well, you are correct, and I have two points to counter that; Zune software is actually rather nice, if not oddly organized, and two, this is the only reason I never bought a Zune. I like windows Media player 12, and I plan to use it as often as possible until my Sansa Fuze dies, then I MAY look at a Zune. Maybe.

So, my lack of love for iTunes causes me to not want to get a iPhone, combined with the fact that I hear At&t is not very good at the 3g. But I also hear it’s getting better, and my brother has an iPhone, and he seems to get a good signal, so I’m kind of torn there. But, the main competitor to the iPhone, the android OS, is fractured and complicated. I don’t know which phone has the newest version, if it will ever get the newest version. If I was Apple, I would make fun of that and make that a serious point; “iPhone, one phone, one OS, one way.” Yes, open is often better (see Windows) but sometimes a little too open can cause issues, and the android OS is proof of that.
