As a long time SEGA and Sonic fan, I was joyful when Sonic was coming to my next/current/previous generation system. I only had my Genesis to play sonic on. So, a 3D sonic in 3D seemed like a good idea. But, shortly into playing the game you discover some issues. A big issue is that there are different teams, making you play through the same levels with only slight variations. This is different from Adventure 2 (which I rather liked) where there were moderate to sever changes (which is a good thing) making it feel like the levels were only inspired by each other.
Well, the controls and the falling deaths and the chaos emeralds are fail-tastic. I have only gotten two, and can't figure out why I keep on failing. I'm not that bad at video games!! There is a level with three acts where you must grind on some rails for about 90% of the acts.....Thats not fun, mashing square! Thats just stupid! And why do I keep on falling off of the rails! FAIL!!! And the chaos emeralds are soooo hard to get. Why can't they use sonic 2 or 3's system. They tried to be "inspired" by sonic 2, but apparently started smoking something powerful during that part of the coding. Another fail aspect.
One of the things sonic was about in 1991/2/4 was speed, and not percision jumping. Something SEGA seems to have forgotten about.......And the boss battles! There are two kinds. Chase "eggman" (dumbest name ever) and defeat another team (why?). I mean.....were they tring? I don't think they were. I like sonic adventure 2 for the DC, I think its great and fun. THis....this is just painful and annoying.
